UP Green Tax Rates — Standard vs NCR vs Lucknow

Uttar Pradesh has three tiers of Green Tax depending on registration district. NCR (Noida/Ghaziabad) follows Delhi-aligned rules. Lucknow has its own pollution surcharge. Other districts use standard rates.

⚠️ Critical for NCR (Noida/Ghaziabad): Beyond Green Tax, NGT/SC orders apply — diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol older than 15 years are banned. No amount of Green Tax payment can keep these vehicles legal in Noida or Ghaziabad. Only EVs are exempt from age caps.

UP NCR — Same Rules as Delhi

Noida (Gautam Buddha Nagar) and Ghaziabad fall under the National Capital Region. Vehicle owners in these districts face the same age caps as Delhi:

🛢️ Diesel — 10 Year Ban

  • SC Order applies to all NCR including Noida/Ghaziabad
  • Auto-deregistration at 10 years
  • Cannot be sold within NCR
  • Must move to non-NCR UP district (Lucknow, Kanpur) — or scrap
  • Penalty for driving: ₹10,000 fine + impounding

⛽ Petrol — 15 Year Ban

  • Petrol vehicles deregistered at 15 years in NCR
  • Insurance becomes void
  • Re-registration only allowed in non-NCR UP/MP/Rajasthan
  • Free pickup by authorized scrappers + ₹50K certificate
💡 Smart loophole: If you have an old diesel car in Noida, you can re-register it in Lucknow (350 km away) where it's legal up to 15 years. Pay UP road tax difference + NOC fee = ₹3,000-5,000 admin cost. Most owners however prefer scrappage benefits.

UP EV Policy 2022 — Subsidy + Exemption

Uttar Pradesh's EV policy is among the strongest in North India. Combine state + central subsidies for major savings:

  • Road Tax + Green Tax: 100% exempt

📋 First 1 lakh EVs only: UP state subsidy is capped at first 100K EV registrations. As of 2026, ~60K slots remain.
